Abstract

This course will provide an introduction to orthognathic surgery. Orthognathic surgery is very close teamwork between orthodontists and surgeons. This course will include diagnosis, case selection, treatment planning and execution of treatment and will describe the collaboration between the specialists and flow of treatment. Also, the course will address orthodontic and surgical considerations before initiating treatment, surgical techniques, risks and complications. Finally, the course will include an introduction to 3-D cephalometrics, computer-assisted treatment planning and splint fabrication based on 3-D CT and surface scans.

Dr Abdelhakim El Gheriani, UAE
Dr El-Gheriani completed his postgraduate training in Orthodontics at the University of Colorado, USA in 2006 after earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the University of Pittsburgh, USA in 2002. He also holds a Master of Science (MS) in Human Genetics from the University of Pittsburgh, Bachelor Degree in Dental Surgery (BDS) from Benghazi University, and a Master of Science in Dental Medicine (MSD) from the University of Colorado. Dr. El-Gheriani is a certified Diplomate in the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).
